The 10th annual Helena Sun Run took to the streets Saturday to raise funds for solar panels for Helena Food Share.

The 5K and 1-mile events featured 189 runners and started at Helena Food Share’s 1280 Boulder Ave. facility in the Sixth Ward.

The new Helena Food Share building was completed just over a year ago. Its community kitchen produces around 25,000 servings per year and is equipped with all-electric appliances and consumes around 14% of their total electricity.

The 54-kW system it hopes to install at the new facility should be enough to power more than twice the energy needed for this kitchen annually and will cover a significant portion of the building's electricity needs as well, event organizers said.
