SALT LAKE CITY — Weber State University is getting mixed reviews about its new solar-powered “W” on the mountain behind the school. Some love it, others are concerned about how much light it’s putting out every night.

Weber State University Spokesperson Rachel Badali said she has received a lot more positive feedback than negative.

“At the football game where it was first lit, there were a lot of gasps and applause. I heard a nearby neighbor who loved it.”

However, some nearby residents are worried about light pollution and its potential effect on animals and other residents in the area, especially since it’s being lit up every night rather than just on special occasions like the university originally planned.
