Applications to join the Indiana State Police as an academy recruit open at midnight on Monday, the agency announced. Interested candidates must apply by 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 11.

To be eligible, applicants must be at least 21 years old and less than 40 years old and must be a U.S. citizen when appointed as a trooper on Nov. 19, 2026. Other requirements include meeting the minimum vision standard, corrected or uncorrected; having a valid driver's license; and be willing, if appointed, to live and serve in any location in the state of Indiana.

The recruiting process kicks off amidst a current hiring struggle for law enforcement, including ISP's Lowell Post. It, like other agencies across Indiana and the U.S., faces staffing shortages. The Lowell Post hopes to add a class of
