Those in Boulder purple were all smiles following Saturday’s Pat Patten Invitational.

Playing host to 12 other schools in one of the area’s longest-running annual cross country meets, the Boulder boys took first and the girls second at the hilly Viele Lake course near Fairview High School. Six total Panthers finished top-10, although none higher than third.

On the boys’ side, senior Lucas Wik overcame some pre-race nerves to pace the Panthers with a third-place time of 15 minutes, 34.5 seconds.

“I was pretty nervous going in because it was the home meet and everything,” Wik said. “It was a lot of pressure, but I was super excited to race a beautiful course. There’s a lot of hills and places to be technical. I knew there’d be some good pack running, but it strung out more than I thought
