The tension of October officially arrived at Rogers Centre in the sixth inning with the Toronto Blue Jays up 2-0.
Kevin Gausman had cruised through five against the Yankees, but New York managed to break through and pressure the Blue Jays starter after Anthony Volpe led off the next frame with a double.
Once Volpe reached, Gausman allowed the next two hitters to reach, via a single and a walk, bringing MVP candidate Aaron Judge to the plate with the bases loaded and no outs.
It was the 64th matchup between Gausman and Judge in their careers, but by far the most important. After an eight-pitch battle, it was Gausman who came out on top, setting Judge down swinging on a splitter low and out of the zone.
