The clues are all there. Author Maureen Jennings seems to live for Victoriana, even as her most famous character — Det. William Murdoch — probes murders amid it. Jennings based Det. Murdoch on the real-life Victorian-era detective John Wilson Murray, an early adopter of forensic science in criminal investigations.
Jennings’ first novel about Det. Murdoch was released in 1997, and the character was at the fore of several TV movies before transitioning to a weekly series airing first on Citytv and then on CBC. Season 19 of Murdoch Mysteries premières Oct. 6 on CBC and CBC Gem.
