Vladimir Guerrero Jr. spent a lot of time this week answering questions about his lack of post-season success and the crushing expectations that come with signing the biggest contract in franchise history.

The 26-year-old had been to the playoffs three times before but he never did much of anything once there. He was the franchise player capable of carrying the Blue Jays team on his back, and yet when the lights were the brightest the generational talent often was nowhere to be found.

That seemed a bit unusual for a man who loves the big stage. Historically, he has been at his best when playing against the division rival New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox, two of the sport’s biggest markets. He also won a home run derby and was comfortable with the international spotlight.
