SEATTLE — Playoff baseball returned to Seattle on Saturday evening as the Mariners opened their American League Division Series against the Detroit Tigers at T-Mobile Park.

George Kirby, who started the 18-inning, 1-0 loss to Houston that ended Seattle’s last postseason run in 2022, took the mound for the Mariners. He faced Tigers rookie right-hander Troy Melton, 24, who entered the night with 16 big-league appearances.
