The Philadelphia Union’s 1-0 win  over New York City on Saturday secured the club the MLS Supporters’ Shield title for the second time in the franchise’s history, completing an impressive turnaround under coach Bradley Carnell. The Union finished 23rd in the Shield standings last season under longstanding coach Jim Curtin, failing to reach the post-season for the first time since 2017, a disappointment which led the club to opt for a change of direction with Curtin’s ten year reign coming to an end and South African Carnell, the former St. Louis coach, brought in.
