NORMAN — Michael Hawkins Jr. sidestepped a pair of pressuring defenders but continued to drift back from the line of scrimmage, which typically spells doom for a quarterback.

Despite Hawkins’ initial escape, Kent State rallied to the ball and he was nearly sacked again. As Hawkins fell to the ground, he floated a prayer toward the end zone.

Fortuitously, OU wideout Isaiah Sategna had run behind the coverage and was there to make the jump-catch between two Golden Flashes defenders for a 30-yard touchdown and the Sooners’ first points of the game.

"Up front on defense, they tried to set a pick, a pick stunt, and got through there a little,” Hawkins recalled postgame. “But, I honestly don't know how I made the throw. I just reacted."
