(NewsNation) — A woman shot by federal immigration authorities Saturday morning in Chicago has been released from the hospital and is in FBI custody, the Department of Homeland Security said.
DHS officials say the shooting occurred on the city’s Southwest Side after U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents were ambushed by “domestic terrorists” who rammed federal police with vehicles.
The woman, injured by “defensive fire" from CBP agents, was driving one of the vehicles and had a semiautomatic weapon, a DHS news release said.
“The scene became increasingly violent as more domestic terrorists gathered and began throwing smoke, gas, rocks, and bottles at DHS law enforcement,” said officials, who reported at least three others were arrested in connection with the incident.
