LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - The Detroit Tigers defeated the Seattle Mariners 3-2 in 11 innings in game one of the ALDS on Saturday night.

The Tigers gave the ball to 24-year-old Trey Melton to start the game and he gave the Tigers a strong outing.

Melton made his MLB debut in late July and was making just his 18th career pitching appearance (fifth start). Nonetheless, he threw four innings and allowed just one run on a solo homer to Mariners' star Julio Rodriguez in the fourth.

The Tigers responded in the fifth inning when Kerry Carpenter hit a towering two-run home run to right field off Mariners' ace George Kirby.

However, Rodriguez struck again in the sixth, delivering an RBI single to right to tie the game 2-2.
