US President Donald Trump has officially authorised the deployment of 300 National Guard troops to Chicago days after a federal judge temporarily blocked him from sending 200 National Guard troops to the city of Portland.
Scenes in Chicago turned ugly on Saturday when US Border Patrol personnel shot an armed woman, the Department of Homeland Security confirmed as thousands of protestors clashed with immigration agents in the city’s southwest side.
No law enforcement officers were seriously injured in the incident in which a group that included the woman rammed cars into vehicles used by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, a DHS spokesperson said in a statement.
