United States President Donald Trump on Sunday ordered 300 National Guard troops to Chicago , overriding Illinois Governor JB Pritzker's objections, after a woman was shot during a heated confrontation between federal immigration agents and protesters, according to The Washington Post .

The incident erupted in the Brighton Park neighbourhood, where US Border Patrol agents said they were "boxed in" by about 10 vehicles and rammed by a group of protesters, including a woman reportedly armed with a semi-automatic weapon.

Agents fired after claiming the gun was pointed at them. The woman, a US citizen, drove herself to a hospital but her condition is unknown. No federal officers were seriously injured during the protests.
