San Diego FC overcame a late push by the Houston Dynamo on Saturday to win 4-2 and become the best regular season expansion team in MLS history.
Anders Dreyer scored two goals and Amahl Pellegrino added a goal and an assist, as SDFC (18-9-6, 60 points), the leader in the Western Conference, took a three-point lead over second-place Vancouver. The club also extended its unbeaten streak on the road to nine games.
Felipe Andrade scored on a sliding first-touch finish — off a low volley played into the area by Ondřej Lingr — to give Houston a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute.
Dreyer converted from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute to tie it up. Luca de la Torre came on in the 84th minute and scored in the 85th to give San Diego a 2-1 lead, but it was short-lived.
