As Cyclone Shakhti intensified into a ‘severe’ storm, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Sunday predicted partly cloudy skies, and light to moderate levels of rainfall in Mumbai and its suburbs. A similar forecast was issued for the Thane and Raigad districts as well; however, for the Palghar district, chances of heavy rainfall have been predicted on October 8.
This comes as scientists from the weather agency maintain that the cyclone poses no threat to the Maharashtra coasts as of now, evident in Mumbaikars going about their day as usual early Sunday.
However, fisherfolk in some coastal areas of the city demanded fair compensation for damages from the Maharashtra government as IMD’s advisory to stay away from Northwest Arabian Sea region till Tuesday have led to a significant imp
