A Monmouth County town’s boardwalk was packed with zombies on Saturday afternoon.

The 17th Asbury Park Zombie Walk drew scores of costumed participants who gathered by the Convention Hall and headed downtown starting at 4 p.m.

Festivities began hours earlier, with the makeup tents opening at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Judges evaluated contestants in the categories of Best Young Zombie, Best Adult, Best Couple and Best Group. Trophies were presented starting at 6 p.m.

The annual event is one of New Jersey’s largest Halloween-themed celebrations, organizers said.

The Asbury Park Zombie Walk debuted in 2008 and typically gets a strong turnout. In 2010, it set a Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people dressed as zombies, with 4,093 participants.
