The Duchess of Edinburgh, Sophie, had a sharp retort when asked if she and Prince Edward would take on more duties following the departure of Meghan Markle, Prince Harry and Prince Andrew from Royal responsibilities. The dedicated Royal responded with: "What did people think we were doing beforehand?".

This quick-witted response was first revealed in Katie Nicholl's 2022 book, The New Royals: Queen Elizabeth's Legacy and the Future of the Crown. Katie noted that Sophie tends to receive less media attention than Meghan due to her more traditional lifestyle.
