The Detroit Tigers are solely focused on the Seattle Mariners right now, but the importance of a series win over the Cleveland Guardians last week has not left their minds just yet.
The Guardians were something of a curse for the Tigers after eliminating them from the postseason in 2024 and swooping in to win the AL Central this season after an historic regular-season collapse by Detroit.
But after downing Cleveland in a Wild Card series decided by just a handful of runs, they’ve continued coming out with big results in tight games by beating the Mariners in extra innings of Game 1 Saturday night in Seattle.
“I don’t know if it was an exhale or what, but, we feel really free, I think,” Tigers right fielder Kerry Carpenter said during an interview on the FS1 broadcast after the 3-2 win
