Telecommunication companies have been put on notice ahead of the looming bushfire season they must report any outages affecting Triple Zero services.

In the wake of the most recent deadly Optus failures — linked to three deaths — Federal Communications Minister Anika Wells has written to Telco chiefs warning they must comply with new rules to provide reliable access to emergency call services.

She demanded the bosses of Optus, Telstra and TPG Telecom attend a meeting with her in Canberra on Tuesday to provide an update on how they will ensure outages are avoided “so people have faith in the Triple Zero system”.
