Two people were killed and 12 others were injured after a shooting broke out between two groups in a crowded nightlife area of Alabama’s capital city late on Saturday, police said.

Montgomery Police Chief James Graboys said officers were called around 11:30 p.m. to what he described as a “mass shooting.” Three of the injured were in hospital with life-threatening wounds, he said, according to the Associated Press (AP).

“This was two parties involved that were basically shooting at each other in the middle of a crowd,” Graboys told reporters. “The shooters did not care about the people around them when they did it.”
