Governments come and go.
Administrations come and go.
History has taught us that in the wide and broadening expanse of time, what is important today is less so tomorrow.
What endures, however, through the comings and goings of people and powers is the morality of it all and the lessons learned from one generation to another that allow us to grow as human beings jostling about for our place on this planet.
I was reminded of what some may call this “deep concern for the human condition” by one of my favorite rabbis during last week’s Yom Kippur services. Elliot Cosgrove is the chief rabbi of the Park Avenue Synagogue in New York. He is a deserved favorite of many, especially those who stream his services three hours ahead of our own religious undertakings.
