In an effort to prevent a spike in airfares during the festival season, aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has asked airlines to deploy additional capacity to meet the demand surge, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) said Sunday. Consequently, IndiGo, Air India, Air India Express, and SpiceJet would cumulatively add over 1,700 flights, the carriers have informed the regulator.
According to the ministry, the DGCA will “maintain rigorous oversight of airline fares and flight capacities to protect passengers’ interests during the festive season”.
