Police officer shot near headquarters in N.J. city, department says

A Trenton police officer was shot Saturday night across the street from police headquarters, the department said.

The officer suffered a non life-threatening wound to the leg and was in stable condition, a police spokesperson said at 11:30 p.m.

The incident occurred in the area of Lincoln, Perry and North Clinton avenues at about 9:15 p.m. Police headquarters is across the intersection on North Clinton Avenue.

Further details about the shooting were not immediately available. The New Jersey State Police is leading the investigation, the department said.
