Senior apostle Dallin H. Oaks is scheduled to deliver his first major General Conference address Sunday as the top leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The 93-year-old former Utah Supreme Court justice will do so as president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in the wake of the recent death of former church President Russell M. Nelson .

Oaks offered brief remarks Saturday to open the conference — which is livestreamed across the globe from the Conference Center in downtown Salt Lake City — and said he would be “speaking in place of President Nelson in the closing session on Sunday afternoon.”
