SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. ( WHNS /Gray News) — A former sheriff allegedly spent over $17,000 in taxpayer money on unauthorized purchases, according to newly released documents from the State Ethics Commission in South Carolina.
Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright is facing 60 state ethics charges in addition to federal charges.
A 19-page document from the commission details how Wright allegedly used his county-issued credit card at more than 100 restaurants and stores for personal purchases.
According to the documents, Wright bought 92 packs of cigarettes at Dollar General with this county-issued card. He also reportedly spent more than $1,300 in the Apple App Store on games, including Huntwise, Ramp Car Jumping and Royal Match.
