For the first time in three years, Penn State did not rank inside the Associated Press Top 25.
The Nittany Lions were not featured in the Week 7 AP Poll after a shocking loss to what was a winless UCLA team. James Franklin’s team fell, 42-37, to one of the nation’s worst teams.
This is the first time Penn State did not place in an AP Poll since Sept. 2, 2022. The Nittany Lions beat Ohio in the following week that season, earning them a No. 22 spot in the ensuing poll.
Penn State, the preseason AP No. 2, still received 97 points despite not making the poll. That made the Lions the de facto No. 28 team.
Interestingly, Texas — the preseason No. 1 — also fell out of the poll and wound up receiving 111 votes. That was one spot ahead of PSU.
