It doesn’t take much imagination to figure how the Edna Karr-St. Augustine matchup could have played out a bit differently.

Let’s start with the goal-line stop on fourth down to start the second half. A touchdown there would have made it a one-score game.

As things turned out, Karr quarterback John Johnson expertly executed a 99-yard drive that put his Cougars in the end zone for a three-touchdown lead — the same margin by which Karr won in the 42-21 victory Friday in Algiers.

Reigning state champion Karr (5-0, 2-0 District 9-5A) came through when it most needed to on the way to running its state-best winning streak to 18 games.

Johnson threw for 342 yards and accounted for five touchdowns — three passing and two rushing — in what has become routine for the third-year varsity starter.
