The San Jose Sharks acquired defenseman Ryan Ellis and a conditional 2026 sixth-round draft selection from the Philadelphia Flyers for forward Carl Grundstrom and defenseman Artem Guryev, the Sharks announced Sunday.

The Predators selected Ellis with the No. 11 overall pick in the 2009 NHL Draft, and he has played 11 seasons with Nashville (2011-21) and the Flyers (2021-22). He was limited to four games for the Flyers because of multiple injuries and has not played since November 2021.

Now 34, Ellis recorded 275 points (76 goals, 199 assists) in 566 games.

Because of his physical condition, Ellis probably will not play again, with the Sharks likely to put him on long-term injury reserve. While they are absorbing the final two years of his eight-year contract, which carries an annual $6.
