TOPSHAM -- One person was killed and two others were seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash in Topsham Saturday night, according to police.

Authorities say the crash happened on route 196 near the Merrymeeting Bridge around 10:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers immediately began performing life-saving efforts on a 23-year-old male passenger from one of the vehicles.

According to the Topsham Police Department, the man was taken to mid coast hospital in Brunswick, where he was later pronounced dead.

The drivers of the vehicles, a 34-year-old man operating a pickup truck and a 25-year-old woman operating an SUV were taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland with serious injuries.
