LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

Up, up and away! BowmanFest took off over the weekend, with two days of aviation entertainment.

Bowman Field first opened in 1920 and, since then, has gained a place amongst the ranks of the oldest operational commercial airports in the nation. The festival is just one of the many ways to get an up-close look at the historic landmark.

An aerobatic air show, a 5k on the runway, over 40 aircraft on display, and a vintage car show are just some of the events that took place at the event, offering a little something for everyone.

Kicking off the festival on Saturday, the IPA 5k on the Runway took runners through the historic airfield, offering a unique perspective of the 426 acres of Bowman Field. Proceeds from the race benefit the Bowman Field Foundation and the Kosair f
