Najera scores second-half equalizer as No. 16 Michigan State women’s soccer draws No. 21 Ohio State 1

EAST LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - No. 16 Michigan State women’s soccer played to a 1-1 draw vs. No. 21 Ohio State on Sunday afternoon at DeMartin Stadium. The Buckeyes led 1-0 at halftime before Spartans’ junior midfielder Bella Najera scored a second-half equalizer to tie the score at 1-1.

Buckeyes’ junior Berkley Mape broke the scoreless tie with a goal slotted into the bottom-right corner of the net in the 44th minute that made it 1-0.

Ohio State held that lead until the 62nd minute, when the Spartans’ Bella Najera collected the ball in the box after a redirect off the post, then put it in the back of the net to tie the game 1-1.

Michigan State outshot Ohio State 12-0 in the second half, but the Spartans were unable to find a winner, and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
