President Dallin H. Oaks, president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, opened his Sunday afternoon session by declaring that church doctrine centers on the family. Essential to that doctrine on the family is the temple , he said.

“The ordinances received there enable us to return as eternal families to the presence of our Heavenly Father,” he said.

“As of the April 2025 general conference, President Russell M. Nelson had announced the construction of 200 new temples. He loved to announce new temples at the conclusion of each general conference, and we all rejoiced with him.

“However, with the large number of temples now in the very earliest phases of planning and construction, it is appropriate that we slow down the announcement of
