(CNN) – Millions of people who rely on food stamps and family aid through federal programs could be at risk of losing assistance during the government shutdown.

The funding was cut off on Sept. 30.

These crucial programs are now relying on reserve funds until the government passes a new spending plan.

Ashley Vasquez is the mother to Zavy, who is now 1 and a half years old and thriving. However, she said that was not always the case.

“He just didn’t have an appetite. He wasn’t putting on weight,” she said.
