The head of a local support service believes we are "sitting on the precipice of really being generational curse breakers".

Armidale Women's Shelter CEO Heidi Burton's words came as she addressed the NSW Legislative Assembly's inquiry into community safety in regional and rural communities .

They also came as Trackside, the youth centre and community hub which the women's shelter oversees, prepares for the next step in its evolution.

On Monday, October 6, the facility, housed in a refurbished disused Transport NSW building, will begin providing crisis accommodation.

There will be eight beds, and people will be able to stay for up to 30 days.

"Our hope is to surround them with support," Mrs Burton told the inquiry.
