Lawyers behind a landmark NSW strip search class action say the lawsuit could be expanded beyond the scope of music festivals, as the state faces the prospect of having to fork over millions in compensation.

The NSW Supreme Court last week found in favour of Raya Meredith, who says she was left humiliated and degraded after being subjected to a strip search at the Splendour In The Grass music festival in July 2018.

Justice Dina Yehia in her judgment described her treatment as “egregious” after a police officer asked her to remove her tampon, lift and expose her body parts and bend over.

No drugs were found in the search.

She is the lead plaintiff in the class action and was vindicated when she was last week awarded $93,000 — with exemplary damages still to be calculated.
