LOUISVILLE, Ky — The feeling Virginia athletic director Carla Williams had on Saturday was the same as the dozens of folks who waited to hug and greet former Cavaliers running back Perris Jones.
“When I was standing in the end zone and I saw him walking toward me, I got emotional,” Williams told The Daily Progress about a half hour before kickoff of UVa’s overtime win at Louisville on Saturday.
That’s because the last time the Hoos were at L&N Credit Union Stadium, they didn’t know what Jones’ future held.
On Nov. 9, 2023, during that season’s UVa-Louisville contest, Jones caught a pass in the third quarter and tried to turn up the field to run when he absorbed a crushing hit and suffered a devastating spinal injury.
