After the Toronto Blue Jays’ first home run on Sunday, the New York Yankees on the field reeled.

Ernie Clement circled the bases, the crowd undulated and the Yankees players began to move back, almost in lockstep. Even the catcher. They were literally retreating.

After Toronto’s second home run – a grand slam that made it 9-0 – the Yankees looked around at each other in amazement. Their can’t-miss starter was already gone and though they couldn’t have had the stats to hand, 10-run comebacks aren’t really a thing in playoff baseball.
