The Incredible Hulk: The Animated Series (1996–1998) laid the groundwork for many of the character beats and story ideas that later appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe . The MCU timeline largely skipped over Hulk ’s origin – relegating it to a quick montage in The Incredible Hulk (2008). Luckily, the animated show filled in the vital emotional and thematic foundation.

The Incredible Hulk TAS built out Hulk’s supporting cast, moral conflicts, and relationship with humanity long before live-action movies could revisit them. Of course, the MCU has frequently sidelined Hulk in team movies. Thankfully, the DNA of his story can be traced directly back to the animated series’ deep exploration of the Green Goliath’s dual nature.
