Detroit — The family of a nonverbal child is suing the Detroit Public Schools Community District for $25 million after they said staff at the student's school intentionally harmed their child and covered up the abuse.

The lawsuit, filed by Hamtramack-based attorney Abe Barlaskar on behalf of the child's parent, Afrin Jahan, claimed that the staff and district officials violated disability law, child protection laws and special education law when they neglected the child and allowed the abuse to be covered up at Moses Field Center, a school for students with disabilities.
