Pope Leo XIV celebrated Mass at the Vatican Lourdes Grotto on the feast of St. Michael the Archangel, the patron saint of the Vatican Gendarmerie Corps, urging members of the force to embrace their mission as “witnesses of peace.”

During his homily, the Pope expressed gratitude for the gendarmes’ daily service and emphasized that their work is not merely a profession, but a vocation of service to the Church. Reflecting on St. Paul’s words to Timothy, he reminded the officers to testify to the Lord through their presence and actions.

“Your presence, often discreet and reassuring, expresses a Gospel style not through words but through attentive gazes and thoughtful gestures that safeguard every person around you,” he said.
