Twelve people have been rescued after a V/Line bus crashed down an embankment in regional Victoria on Monday.

Emergency crews were called to the regional town of Foster, about 30km north of Wilsons Promontory National Park, at 11.55am on Monday after a bus crashed into a ditch on Fish Creek-Foster Road.

Country Fire Authority and Fire Rescue Victoria crews arrived on scene to find the V/Line bus 2.5 metres down the muddy embankment, with the driver and 11 passengers all trapped inside.

A CFA spokesperson said crews had managed to stabilise the bus and rescue those inside.

“Crews stabilised the bus using a rope system and were able to evacuate all passengers and the driver,” the spokesperson said.

“The bus has been winched and is awaiting heavy haulage to remove from the scene.”
