The Supreme Court, Monday, issued a notice regarding a writ petition filed by Gitanjali J. Angmo, wife of Leh-based climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, challenging his detention under the National Security Act (NSA). A Bench comprising Justices Aravind Kumar and N.V. Anjaria sought responses from the Union government and other relevant authorities.
Representing the Centre, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta stated that the grounds for Wangchuk’s detention had already been provided to him.
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Wangchuk, countered that no family member had received the grounds of detention. In response, SG Mehta said, “The law requires service on the detenue, and we have done that. We will examine the feasibility of serving it to his wife.”
