Salima Sugar Company Executive Director, Wester Kosamu, has confirmed that the government has ordered an immediate halt to the company’s operations.

In an interview, Kosamu said it remains unclear who exactly issued the directive but noted that the company was already engaged in maintenance works at its Salima factory in preparation for resuming production.

“We have done a lot to resume production, and what this means is that there will be no sugar production now,” said Kosamu.

He emphasized that the suspension comes at a critical time when the company was gearing up to restart sugar processing.

Further details on the reason behind the halt have not been disclosed.
