Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has made headlines with her recent remarks praising the Brahmin community for their significant contributions to society. Speaking at the All India Brahmin Conference organized by Shri Brahmin Sabha in Pitampura on October 5, she stated, "If anyone is igniting the flame of knowledge in society, it is our Brahmin community. They worship not only scriptures but also weapons. Only through weapons and scriptures can we protect society and the country today."

Gupta emphasized the community's role in promoting knowledge, religion, and goodwill, urging all governments to prioritize their welfare. She remarked, "No matter which government is in power, it should work for the welfare of the Brahmin community to move them forward."

The Chief Minister also criticized the previous administrations, claiming that Delhi has faced a backlog of issues for the past 27 years. She called for a collective effort to accelerate progress in the capital, stating, "Now is the time to shift gears... If we all work together in the interest of Delhi and its people, then Delhi will surely be established as a Viksit Delhi (developed Delhi)."

Her comments have sparked controversy, with opposition leaders from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) labeling them as "insensitive". AAP leader Sanjeev Jha expressed his astonishment, stating that Gupta's remarks insult the sentiments of the people.

In a related statement, Gupta also mentioned that a "sanatani government" has been elected in Delhi for the first time in 27 years, highlighting plans for a grand celebration of Chhath Puja along the Yamuna river, which she said had been neglected by previous governments.

Gupta's remarks are expected to fuel discussions on caste-based welfare policies and the role of different communities in Delhi's development.
