Premier François Legault compared himself to Rocky at a recent pre-session Coalition Avenir Québec party shindig, even playing the famous soundtrack.

In Legault’s eyes, he sees himself as the underdog character in the iconic boxing franchise who was counted out but fought his way back. The two-term premier wants to battle his way to a third mandate next year despite his approval ratings being in the basement at the moment.

The movie metaphor kind of works, just not in the way Legault thinks. It’s more along the lines of: We’ve seen this film before.

Whenever Legault finds himself cornered, he picks out a bogeyman (real or imagined), goes on the attack and tries to punch his way out. Sometimes things get ugly.
