MACKINAW TOWNSHIP ( 25News Now ) - Wind gusts up to 30 mph and dry grounds caused by the drought provided a perfect storm Sunday for brush fires to pop up in several areas of Central Illinois.

Several rural fire departments were called during the noon hour for a fire in a wooded area along the Mackinaw River, off of Hild Road.

Rugged terrain made it difficult for Mackinaw crews to get to the fire, so they used Tyrell Road as an entry point. They also called neighboring communities for help.

The Allin Township Fire Department from Stanford offered assistance with its Utility Terrain Vehicle, or UTV, and the fire was quickly brought under control, according to a Mackinaw Fire Department release.
