BIBB COUNTY, Ga. — The Bibb County School District wants to continue upgrading its buildings , technology and safety. This November, voters will decide whether that work goes forward.

Superintendent Dan Sims pointed to safety improvements made possible through the current ESPLOST .

“We have audio enhancement and safety features that have now empowered us to have everybody with the capability of letting, on a dime, the authorities know when an emergency is happening,” Sims said.

The question on the ballot will ask whether to extend a one-cent sales tax for schools, known as an Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, or ESPLOST. An ESPLOST is a local sales tax that funds capital improvements for public schools, such as new construction, renovations and safety upgrades.
