Although every decade sees incredible animated films get released, the '90s were, in many ways, the most influential time for the genre. Walt Disney Animation Studios was in the midst of its iconic renaissance era , stop-motion animation saw some legendary releases, and computer animation became a thing.

There were also some incredible animated movies released internationally. These were all great movies on their own but they also were important in how they shaped the genre for decades to come. Each year saw the arrival of a few great films but only one each year can be considered the best.
