New Delhi: India’s computer services industry is riding a wave of global demand, and artificial intelligence appears to be one of the big drivers. According to the World Bank, India’s software exports have grown sharply since the launch of ChatGPT in late 2022, with sectors like outsourcing and business process services adopting AI faster than expected.

Speaking at the Fourth Kautilya Economic Conclave in New Delhi, Franziska Ohnsorge, Chief Economist for the South Asia Region at the World Bank, said India is “well placed” to benefit from the AI era. She pointed out that the country’s IT and BPO services are already reshaping themselves around new tools like ChatGPT, helping exports climb at an impressive pace.
